Soft Tissue Grafts
Procedures to restore receding gums, cover exposed root surfaces, and help protect teeth from sensitivity and further recession.
Why gum grafting is recommended
Gum recession can expose the root surfaces of teeth, which may cause sensitivity to hot and cold, make teeth look longer, and leave roots more vulnerable to decay and further bone loss.
A soft tissue graft adds gum tissue to areas where it has thinned or pulled away. This can stabilize the gumline, cover exposed roots, and create a healthier foundation around the tooth.
How treatment is planned
Your dentist will assess the amount of recession, gum thickness, and the cause of the recession, such as brushing habits, grinding, or gum disease, so that the underlying issue is addressed too.
Graft tissue may come from the roof of the mouth or from a donor material, depending on your needs. We will explain the options, what healing involves, and the aftercare that helps the graft settle in.
